By 9:45 on Saturday morning, the best curb spots on Price Street belong to people who slept a few blocks away. They walked over with coffee and a folding chair while the day-trippers were still hunting for parking. The secret to Clam Festival weekend is simple: get here the night before.
The 80th Annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival runs October 17 and 18, 2026. The festival page has the full schedule. This guide covers how to turn it into a weekend.
Kick Off Friday with the Totally Tubular Wine Walk
The Pismo Beach Chamber opens festival weekend on Friday, October 16, with an 80s-themed Wine Walk through downtown. Check in at Beachin’ Biscuits at 800 Price Street, then stroll between local businesses pouring wine and serving bites from 5 to 7:30 p.m. General admission is $40. For $55, the VIP party keeps going at Inn at the Pier from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Neon, big hair and Members Only jackets are all fair game. If you book Friday night, the walk home is short.

Claim Your Parade Spot Early
The Clam Festival Parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday on Price Street. Families line the route well before the first float, so bring a chair and a warm layer for the morning marine layer. If you’re staying downtown, you can set up your spot and still wander back for breakfast before the bands arrive.
Chowder, With or Without a Ticket
The Clam Chowder Cook-Off is the weekend’s hottest ticket, and it sells out most years. If you have cook-off tickets, pace yourself and save your People’s Choice vote for the last few cups.
If you missed out, you can still eat plenty of chowder. Splash Cafe’s clam chowder is a Pismo ritual for a reason, and the rest of the town’s seafood spots turn chowder weekend into a delicious scavenger hunt.
Save Sunday for the Kids
The festival reopens at 11 a.m. on Sunday. That same hour, the Pismo Beach Stewardship Program leads the Kids Clam Rescue, where young visitors learn how to rebury clams the right way.
The lesson carries real weight this year. The Pismo clam nearly vanished from this beach for decades, and in 2020 researchers from Cal Poly’s Ruttenberg Lab documented thousands of juveniles returning to the shoreline. You can read that story in Pismo Beach’s Pismo Clam Comeback.
Stay Through Monday
Most festival crowds head home Sunday afternoon. Stay one more night and Monday morning is yours: the trails at Pismo Preserve are quiet, and the tidepools are there at low tide. After lunch, head to the Edna Valley, where weekday tasting rooms leave time for real conversation with the people pouring.
Where to Stay for Clam Festival Weekend
Rooms go fast for festival weekend, so book early. Downtown and oceanfront hotels put you within walking distance of the parade route and the pier. For families who want a kitchen and extra room, a vacation rental makes a Friday-to-Monday trip easy. Bringing the dog? Dog-friendly lodging keeps everyone together.
